Tigers Tamed By Jammers
A commanding performance from Maldon & Tiptree gave them a 3-0 win over Tigers in Romford on Sunday
The Maldon starting lineup saw one notable addition in the form of Jazz Cox following her arrival from Hutton.
Maldon seized the initiative right from the off and never looked like giving it up.
Abby Caldon registered the first Jammers attempt on goal with eight minutes played. Cox and Holly Moore linked up well down the left-hand side before Cox played the ball into Caldon who did well to get away from her defender and get a shot away that was pushed away by the goalkeeper.
The Tigers keeper was called into action again to smother Amy Jacobs’ through ball with Cox in on goal before Moore clipped the bar with a looping effort as the visitors looked to open the floodgates.
Maldon eventually got the goal their dominance warranted halfway through the first half. Jacobs’ corner found Brooke Wright on the penalty spot. Her header to the back post crept under the foot of the defender on the post and into the net.
Tigers nearly levelled the score ten minutes before the break, but a header from a corner was cleared off the line by Rianna Everett who also cleared the rebound.
Maldon recovered and Amy Yeldham went agonisingly close to doubling the lead late on, but couldn’t quite get firm contact on Moore’s cross with Wright’s goal proving the difference at the interval.
If there was any difference to the second half, it was that the Maldon chances were coming far more frequently.
In the opening ten minutes of the half, Bec Gallacher, Wright, Cox and Natalie Strange all had chances to add to the score.
Eventually, the pressure told and Cox grabbed a goal on debut.
Yeldham did well to carry the ball out of the Maldon half before finding Gallacher. Her through ball caused chaos as goalkeeper and defender collided with both trying to clear the ball. Cox pounced and rolled home the easiest goal she’ll ever score to give Maldon breathing room.
Maldon’s pressure was relentless and chances continued to come. Moore struck the bar again before the keeper did brilliantly to smother a shot from Libby Keeler after the Maldon young gun had won the ball back from a Tigers kick.
A third goal came in added on time as Jacobs’ freekick cannoned back of the bar. The ball was worked back to Chloe Rylett on the edge of the box and she guided it home with a sublime swing of her right foot.
That win keeps the pressure up on leaders Leigh Ramblers ahead of the visit of Brightlingsea Regent to the Drewitt-Barlow on Wednesday evening.
