Jammers Bag Three Moore Points
Maldon & Tiptree secured a second win against Braintree Athletic in a week thanks to a commanding 3-0 win on Sunday.
Following Wednesday night’s 5-1 win at home, the Jammers travelled to Braintree looking to continue their recovery from last Sunday’s draw at Brentwood.
Maldon started well and created some early openings. Brody Brownlie had a couple of early shots that went just wide as the visitors looked to take an early lead.
As she has been all season, Holly Moore was a constant threat for Maldon. She was unlucky to see her shot roll wide of the far post with no one there to tap home.
Jody Buckley’s side continued to dominate proceedings. Moore and Amy Yeldham both had attempts saved by Braintree goalkeeper Molly Harris with the first half ebbing away.
With just under five minutes of the half left, Maldon finally made the breakthrough as Moore struck her shot low and hard into the far corner. The goal owed a lot to the tenacity of Yeldham to hold the ball up under pressure from the Braintree defence and play an inch perfect ball into Moore.
It was nearly two just a few moments later, but the keeper did well to push the ball away with no one in a Jammers shirt to finish.
Early into the second half, a poor back pass from Rhianna Everett set a Braintree player in on goal. But, under pressure from Freya Faulkner, she poked wide.
They were made to pay five minutes later as Maldon doubled their lead. This time, Moore returned the favour to Yeldham with a sensational cross. Yeldham’s calm first-time strike left Harris with no chance and Maldon had daylight.
Maldon needed goals and continued to pour forward. Evie Payne had an effort saved as she looked to add to the brace she got on Wednesday, before Moore and Yeldham both went close.
Bec Gallacher notched the Jammers’ third with a thunderbolt with 25 minutes left. More great hold up play from Yeldham saw her lay the ball of to Gallacher 20 yards from goal and she let fly with a screamer into the roof of the net.
Moore and Yeldham nearly linked up again for number four, but the former couldn’t connect with the latter’s cross.
On another day, Moore might’ve had a hat-trick. With thirteen minutes to go, she hit the post from a narrow angle.
Harris was called upon again near fall time to claw away Payne’s audacious attempt that she hooked over her shoulder as Maldon had to settle for a three- nil win.
Next up is a home test against Frontiers on Easter Sunday.
