Jammers End February In Style
Maldon & Tiptree returned to Isthmian League North action with a commanding 3–0 victory over Brightlingsea Regent, a result that sends the Jammers to the top of the table by a single point — and with an impressive 11-goal advantage in goal difference.
Despite a cagey opening, two late goals from Mike Faulkner ensured a deserved three points, while goalkeeper Elliott Justham enjoyed a relatively comfortable afternoon between the posts.
The contest began at a measured pace, with neither side carving out clear-cut opportunities in the early exchanges. Maldon gradually found their rhythm, however, and Louie Arrowsmith produced the first meaningful effort, forcing a smart save from Brightlingsea goalkeeper Luke Avenell to win an early corner.
The visitors thought they had taken the lead when Shane Temple found the net, but celebrations were cut short as the linesman’s flag was raised for offside. Temple threatened again soon after, though Justham dealt confidently with the danger. Brightlingsea’s Michael Okafor was shown the game’s first yellow card for a mistimed challenge on Mike Faulkner as Maldon began to assert themselves. A long throw from captain Jack Cawley caused problems but resulted only in a routine save.
The Jammers had two strong penalty appeals waved away by referee James Black before Avenell was called into action again, reacting sharply to deny a crowded effort following Louis Dunne’s dangerous delivery. Faulkner’s quick footwork then created space for Freddie Sears, whose effort forced a corner that was nearly turned home amid a scramble.
The breakthrough finally arrived on 44 minutes. A superb first touch from Louis Dunne took him past his defender and drew a foul inside the box. Sears stepped up and calmly converted the penalty into the bottom-left corner, despite Avenell getting a hand to the ball.
Brightlingsea nearly responded immediately, but Justham produced an excellent save and saw the rebound crash against the post before Arrowsmith cleared to preserve Maldon’s lead at the break.

The visitors started the second period with greater urgency, though their momentum was disrupted when Idreess Namisi was booked for a late challenge on Arrowsmith.
Terrell Egbri was lively down the right flank and won a free-kick in a promising area. Moments later, a superb pass from Cawley released Egbri again, whose inviting cross found Sears, but only a fantastic save from Avenell prevented a second goal.
Maldon made their first change on 67 minutes, with Anisius Lewis replacing goalscorer Sears, before further alterations followed as the hosts looked to manage the game. Brightlingsea’s number nine had a sight of goal from the edge of the box but fired straight at Justham — a moment that proved costly.
On 79 minutes, Maldon doubled their advantage. A poor touch from Okafor was seized upon by Faulkner, who surged forward and confidently slotted into the bottom-right corner. Just three minutes later, Faulkner struck again. Skipping past his marker with ease, he finished clinically into the same corner to put the result beyond doubt and cap a fine individual display.
