Jammers Breeze Past Bowers
A ruthless first half from Maldon & Tiptree saw them dispose of Bowers & Pitsea on a sun drenched afternoon at the Drewitt- Barlow Stadium. Bowers had won 5 of their last 6 games coming into Saturday’s clash but were completely blown away by Kevin Horlock’s side.
Maldon flew out of the blocks and Freddie Sears and the returning Malachi Napa were denied by Joe Whitney inside the opening minute. Sears had another chance a few minutes later, but could only sidefoot wide following Mikey Faulkner’s cross. Not to be denied, Sears eventually gave the hosts a deserved lead, sweeping home Tevan Allen’s cross high above the despairing dive of Whitney. That was the Jammers’ hitman’s 30th goal of the season.
The first effort of note from Bowers came from Jonathan Evans bouncing a shot wide after eleven minutes. Maldon continued to dominate. Tom Eastman and Ross Wall headed over either side of Faulkner having a second goal ruled out by the offside flag with twenty minutes gone.
Magic Malachi
Napa was a live wire all afternoon and he gave The Jammers breathing room. The goal owed much to the quick thinking of Elliot Justham whose quick freekick fell for Napa. The number 8 did the rest, sliding the ball past the Bowers’ goalkeeper. Napa turned provider with five minutes of the first half, his ball inside was seized on by Cameron James who fired home across the face of goal.
It was nearly four on the stroke of halftime, but Sears’ flick-on was just about snuggled away by a beleaguered Bowers defence. With the job seemingly done, the second half was a more serene affair and struggled to ever really get off the ground. Matt Yates had appeals for a penalty turned away ten minutes after the restart.Â
Jamie Salmon fired a rare effort at Justham who was more at risk of sunburn than anything Bowers mustered throughout the 90 minutes. Marlon Agyakwa headed just over late on for the visitors before Bilal Sayoud went close with a drilled freekick as a tepid second half drew to a close with the game long since won by Maldon,
Next up, its hopefully fourth time lucky as The Jammers make the trip to Gorleston following three previous postponements.
