Jammers Begin New Era with Comeback Victory
Maldon & Tiptree began a new chapter in the club’s history in perfect fashion on Saturday afternoon, coming from behind twice to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Whitehawk in the first game under the club’s new ownership.
There was a sense of anticipation around the stadium ahead of kick-off as the Jammers embarked on a new era, and the players responded with a performance full of character and determination.
Despite the positive atmosphere, it was Whitehawk who made the brighter start. Experienced forward Rhys Murphy opened the scoring after just eight minutes, giving the visitors an early advantage.
The Jammers gradually grew into the contest and were rewarded for their pressure shortly before half-time when Kai Redgrave found the net in the 44th minute to bring Maldon level.
There was further drama before the interval, however, as Murphy struck again in the fourth minute of stoppage time to restore Whitehawk’s lead and send the visitors into the break 2-1 ahead.
Maldon returned with renewed purpose and produced an excellent second-half response.
The equaliser arrived in the 64th minute when the Jammers were awarded a penalty after an obvious handball, with Eze Ebuzoeme confidently converting from the spot.
Just two minutes later, the comeback was complete. It was Chaynie Burgin found the back of the net, reacting quickest to a spilled clearance from the Goalkeeper to put Maldon 3-2 ahead and send the home support into celebration.
Whitehawk pushed for an equaliser during the closing stages, but the Jammers defended resolutely to secure three valuable points.
It was a memorable way to begin a new era at Maldon & Tiptree — a hard-fought victory, a spirited comeback and the perfect start for the club’s new ownership.
